

IPR ATTORNEY ASSOCIATION
To spread awareness about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights, the advocates and the IP Practitioners formed the IPR Attorney Association in the beginning of 2011. The IPR Attorney Association was duly registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975. To promote and encourage the innovation of the intellectual minds of the people, to safeguard the national treasures and to make the people aware of the Intellectual Products registered under IP Law, the association has taken great efforts in organizing various activities involving the youth. IPR Attorney Association was formally inaugurated on February 25, 2011 by Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.K.Krishnan in the presence of Prof N.Manohar.
ACTIVITIES OF THE ASSOCIATION
• The first and the foremost activity of the association was the celebration of World IP Day. It was celebrated in a grand scale on April 26, 2011 at Hotel Savera with the kind sponsorship of GKM Engineering College. The inaugural address was delivered
by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Elipe Dharma Rao, Judge, High court of Madras, in the distinguished presence of the Consul-General of Japan. More than 200 advocates participated in the world IPR Day celebration.
• The Association believes that the young minds would be the best place to sow the knowledge about IPR which would give a fruitful result. In that regard, during the National Children’s Day programme conducted in the DAV Girls’ Sr. Secondary
School, Gopalapuram on November 14, 2011 valuable information as to innovation and motivation was given to the participating students by the Association. The programme was graced by Hon'ble Ms. Justice K.B.K. Vasuki, Judge, High court of Madras
who kindly distributed certificates to the students.
• The Association feels proud about the fact that two students from the Gujarat National Law University, Gandhi Nagar were trained under the Association in Intellectual Property Law for one month in December 2011. Hon'ble Mr. Justice
S.K.Krishnan, (Retd.,) Judge of the Madras High Court, Cyber Appellate Tribunal, New Delhi issued the certificates to the students.
• The Association is also glad that it trained a doctorate student of Alagappa college of Textile and Technology, Anna University in the IPR Training Programme in the month of December 2011.
• The Association has taken great efforts to train the students from the Gujarat National Law University, Gandhi Nagar, in IPR law in the month of January 2012.
• In January 2012, the Association provided a short term (15 days) training program in IPR Law for the Bio Technology students of Periyar University, salem.
• On the eve of Pongal festival 2012, the Association distributed certificates to a group of selected students from Little Flower Convent, Chennai, as an attempt to encourage creativity among the young minds. The certificates were issued
by Hon'ble Mr. Justice R.Sudhakar, Judge, High court of Madras
• The President of the Association Mr.Sanjai Gandhi addressed a letter dated December 24, 2011 to the Ministry of Industries and Commerce, Government of India to secure additional protection for the handloom and handicraft products under
the Geographical Indications Act 1999.
The Association records its satisfaction that it has done its best in the short span of time to popularize and propagate IPR related information to important segments of society including officials and also seeking adequate protection under
the IPR law. It will be the endeavor of the Association to continue its activities in the future with greater enthusiasm and with encouragement from the Government and the people.
